Students Engaged in Learning
Patrick Henry Elementary, Arlington VA – Mike Humphreys, elementary PE teacher took the Active Learning Specialist Course in summer 2013. He created an active learning plan focused on helping to increase student engagement in learning. He launched a before school exercise program called Zero Hour Fitness that is helping prepare students for learning. He developed “re-boots” that classroom teachers can use to energize students for learning and perform better in school.
- Behavior improved in students who participate in Zero Hour Fitness
- Classroom climate improved due to brain recharge exercises
- Students wearing Sqord accelerometers perform better on fitness tests
“The fifth graders are loving these (reboots)!
I just did the Stoplight game before our testing this morning, and I wish you could see how focused my students are right now.”
